Description
Fruit Tree Grease provides a simple way to monitor and restrict crawling pests that move up the trunks of fruit and ornamental trees.
By forming a sticky barrier around the trunk, it helps stop wingless female moths and other crawling pests from reaching the branches and laying eggs.

The formulation contains rapeseed oil and is designed to trap pests such as Winter Moth and Mottled Umber Moth as they climb trees from late autumn into early winter.

Female adults of these moth species are wingless, so trapping them on the tree trunk can give a useful indication of the level of pest activity affecting each tree.
If an infestation is identified, neighbouring trees should also be treated.

How to use
For Fruit Tree Grease to work effectively, a complete barrier should be created around the entire circumference of the tree trunk.
- Choose a suitable position on the trunk at least 45cm (18in) above ground level and below the lowest branch.
- Remove any loose bark from the area where the grease will be applied.
- Using a stiff brush or spatula, apply a band approximately 10cm (4in) wide all the way around the trunk.
- Work the grease carefully into cracks and crevices so pests cannot pass underneath the barrier.
- Check the band regularly and replenish the grease as required to maintain its stickiness.
When to apply
Apply during September and October before winter moth activity increases.
Renew the grease in February to help monitor and control early spring pests such as March Moth.
Where to apply
Apply directly around the trunks of established fruit trees and other susceptible trees.
Position the grease band below the lowest branch but at least 45cm above ground level, ensuring that the barrier extends completely around the trunk.
Young Trees
When treating young trees, apply the grease to a paper band wrapped tightly around the trunk rather than applying the grease directly to the bark.
Important application advice
- Make sure the grease forms a complete, uninterrupted ring around the tree.
- Work the grease into cracks and crevices in the bark.
- Replenish the band whenever necessary to maintain stickiness.
- If pest activity is detected, treat neighbouring trees as well.
- Use a different position on the trunk for the grease band each year.
